Job Roggeveen & Edward Capel – Spinselwisseling

Multi-instrumentalist Job Roggeveen en virtuoos houtblazer Edward Capel voeren een instrumentaal gesprek waarbij ze muzikaal hun plek in de wereld verkennen en de ruimte die ze ten opzichte van elkaar innemen. Want sommige mensen kunnen zich in taal moeilijk uitdrukken, maar muzikaal valt voor hen alles binnen seconden op de juiste plek. De toon gaat van dromerig, intiem en ontroerend, tot wild uit de bocht vliegend, van neoklassiek, tot free jazz. Ze zetten daarbij een wijd arsenaal aan muziekinstrumenten in. Om de beurt voeren ze de boventoon, ze sturen en dienen elkaar en hun muzikaliteit, ze leiden en worden geleid. Een uitwisseling van muzikale hersenspinsels.
Een monoloog verbindt dit muzikale avontuur waarin wordt gefilosofeerd over hoe je de juiste hoeveelheid ruimte kan innemen in de omgeving waarin je je bevindt. Ben jij iemand die de lijnen uitzet? Of kijk je de kat uit de boom? Neem je graag een boven positie? Of ben je meer dienend en ondersteunend? En is de ruimte die je krijgt of neemt ook echt de ruimte die bij je past? Accepteer je die, of blijft er onder de oppervlakte iets broeien en blijf je wrikken en duwen tot er iets beweegt? Misschien heb je wel zeeën van ruimte nodig om tot wasdom te komen.

Edward Capel is saxofonist, componist, ensembleleider en docent. Hij speelde jarenlang bij de artrockgroep Blast (Cuneiform Records) en werkte aan multidisciplinaire projecten zoals Mixed Frequencies voor Muzieklab Brabant en The Conductor Tales met Rik van Iersel. Edward treedt op met o.a. Happy Camper, Minyeshu en Anneke van Giersbergen, en componeert voor projecten als VLEK, Senga Etna, Eddy & the Ethiopians en zijn solowerk Now Only the Horns. Hij werkte samen met o.a. John Zorn, Butch Morris en Bart Maris.
Job Roggeveen werkt als solo pianist en is componist en initiatiefnemer van Edison winnend muziekproject Happy Camper. Daarnaast is hij onderdeel van de Oscar genomineerde en Emmy winnende animatiestudio Job, Joris & Marieke, waarbinnen hij componist en artdirector is.

Begin 2026 kwam het improvisatie album Spinselwisseling van Job Roggeveen en Edward Capel uit bij Excelsior Recordings.

Multi-instrumentalist Job Roggeveen and virtuoso woodwind player Edward Capel engage in an instrumental dialogue, musically exploring their place in the world and the space they occupy in relation to one another. For some, expressing themselves in words is a struggle, yet musically, everything falls into place within seconds. The tone shifts from dreamy, intimate, and moving to wild and unbridled, ranging from neoclassical to free jazz. They employ a vast array of musical instruments in the process. Taking turns in the spotlight, they steer and serve one another and their shared musicality; they lead and are led—an exchange of musical musings.
A monologue weaves through this musical adventure, offering reflections on how to claim the right amount of space in one's surroundings. Are you someone who sets the course? Or do you prefer to wait and see? Do you like to take a dominant position, or are you more inclined to serve and support? And is the space you are granted—or take—truly the space that suits you? Do you accept it, or does something simmer beneath the surface, prompting you to push and prod until something shifts? Perhaps you need vast amounts of space to truly come into your own.

Edward Capel is a saxophonist, composer, ensemble leader, and educator. He played for years with the art-rock group Blast (Cuneiform Records) and has worked on multidisciplinary projects such as *Mixed Frequencies* for Muzieklab Brabant and *The Conductor Tales* with Rik van Iersel. Edward performs with artists including Happy Camper, Minyeshu, and Anneke van Giersbergen, and composes for projects such as VLEK, Senga Etna, and Eddy & the Ethiopians, as well as his solo work, *Now Only the Horns*. He has collaborated with artists such as John Zorn, Butch Morris, and Bart Maris.
