Mother Tongue
Mother Tongue is de ontmoeting tussen de drummer Frank Rosaly, de griot-zanger Mola Sylla, en de improtoetsenist Oscar Jan Hoogland. Elk brengt een uniek instrument en een eigen culturele achtergrond mee, wat hun gezamenlijke muziek een uitgesproken en eigenzinnige klank geeft.
Zanger en percussionist Mola Sylla is in vele opzichten een muzikale ontdekkingsreiziger. Geboren en getogen in Dakar, Senegal, groeide hij op binnen de traditie van de griots.
De Puerto Ricaanse drummer Frank Rosaly is sinds 2001 actief binnen de geïmproviseerde en experimentele muziekscene. Hij maakte naam in Chicago, een stad met een levendige improvisatie-, rock- en jazzcultuur, waar hij uitgroeide tot een muzikaal icoon.
Oscar Jan Hoogland belichaamt het bruis van zijn thuisstad Amsterdam. Als instantcomponist en instrumentenuitvinder bespeelt hij onder meer een clavichord, een toetsinstrument uit de 17e eeuw, dat hij aansluit op 220 volt elektriciteit. Als laatste leerling van pianist, componist en improvisator Misha Mengelberg beweegt hij zich als een tornado door de Amsterdamse jazz- en improvisatiescene.

Bex Burch
Tijdens haar residentie voor Interlinie #3 werkt Bex Burch aan haar compositie As Yet Untitled. Rondom haar verzamelen zich trompettist James McClure (NL/ZA), violiste Esther Coorevits (BE) en accordeonist Stan Maris (BE, Kin Gajo). Samen geven zij het werk van Bex vorm vanuit hun eigen muzikale praktijk, waardoor unieke muzikale ontmoetingen ontstaan die verder reiken dan één moment of één plek.
As Yet Untitled bevindt zich tussen structuur en improvisatie, herhaling en verstoring. Het werk ontvouwt zich in een dialoog tussen natuurgeluiden, instrumenten en stemmen uit het publiek.

Singer and percussionist Mola Sylla is, in many respects, a musical explorer. Born and raised in Dakar, Senegal, he grew up within the griot tradition.
Puerto Rican drummer Frank Rosaly has been active in the improvised and experimental music scene since 2001. He made his name in Chicago—a city with a vibrant improvisation, rock, and jazz culture—where he became a musical icon.
Oscar Jan Hoogland embodies the energy of his hometown, Amsterdam. An "instant composer" and instrument inventor, he plays instruments such as the clavichord—a 17th-century keyboard instrument—which he connects to a 220-volt power supply. As the final protégé of pianist, composer, and improviser Misha Mengelberg, he moves through the Amsterdam jazz and improvisation scene like a tornado.

Bex Burch
During her residency for Interlinie #3, Bex Burch is working on her composition As Yet Untitled. Joining her are trumpeter James McClure (NL/ZA), violinist Esther Coorevits (BE), and accordionist Stan Maris (BE, Kin Gajo). Together, they shape Bex’s work through their own musical practices, creating unique musical encounters that extend beyond a single moment or place.
As Yet Untitled exists in the space between structure and improvisation, repetition and disruption. The work unfolds as a dialogue between sounds of nature, instruments, and voices from the audience.
